Overview
This is a commercial product developed for a large Indonesian manufacturer and sold as a packaged solution. It enables end-to-end traceability across every distribution hop: from factory to warehouse, warehouse to warehouse, warehouse to distributor, and distributor to retail or end customer. Each product carries a unique QR code that can be scanned by any camera or handheld scanner to verify authenticity. The platform is under active development.
The Problem
Product counterfeiting and supply chain opacity are critical challenges for manufacturers that distribute goods across complex, multi-tier networks. Without a reliable way to verify authenticity or trace where a product has been at each stage, manufacturers face counterfeit goods, inventory discrepancies, and weak accountability across distribution partners.
My Role
I was the sole developer across the platform: QR generation, the authentication flow, the multi-hop tracking system, container hierarchy management, and the Filament web interface. As a greenfield commercial product built for external buyers, it had to be robust, scalable, and operable without deep technical knowledge.
Process
I designed the platform as a standalone product: unique QR generation per product, an authentication scan flow, multi-hop tracking across factory, warehouse, distributor, and retail, and a container hierarchy with pack, transfer, receive, and breakdown operations. The interface uses Filament, and public scan endpoints are protected with rate limiting and service-layer boundaries from the start.
Key Features
- 01Unique QR generation per product
- 02Product authentication by scanning any QR with any camera or handheld scanner
- 03Multi-hop tracking across factory, warehouse, distributor, and retail
- 04Multi-level container hierarchy with pack, transfer, receive, and breakdown
- 05Filament dashboard for products, shipments, and authentication logs
Challenges
As a greenfield commercial product it had to work for buyers without assumptions about their infrastructure. The main difficulty was modeling container hierarchies and multi-hop movement so traceability stays correct at every hop, while keeping the public-facing endpoints safe from bursts of scanning traffic.
Outcome
The platform is under active development, with QR generation, authentication, and multi-hop tracking already working end to end. The remaining work focuses on finalizing the packaged commercial offering that the company marketing team will present to buyers, with rate limiting and service-layer boundaries protecting the public scan endpoints.
