Overview
Kas TIY is an open-source cash management system for TIY, a youth employee organization within Pura Barutama. As the organization treasurer, I felt the pain of manual cash tracking and built the ledger I wanted: structured income and expense records, clean financial summaries, and a Filament admin that non-technical members can use. The app is hosted on a VPS, and I am now turning it into an open-source project so other organizations can reuse it.
The Problem
Managing organization finances by hand, through spreadsheets or handwritten ledgers, risks human error, weak transparency, and hard-to-produce financial summaries. As treasurer I experienced this directly: there was no reliable, accessible system for recording income and expenses or producing clean reports.
My Role
I built this project entirely on my own initiative, as both the end user and the sole developer. I designed the data model, built the app with Laravel and Filament, hosted it on a VPS, and I am now rebuilding it with Inertia and React for the open-source release. This is a classic scratch your own itch project: a real problem I faced, solved with the tools I know best.
Process
I started from my own monthly routine as treasurer, listing what a trustworthy ledger needs: fast entry, clear categories, and a report that reconciles. I modeled the data, built the Filament admin, and deployed it to a VPS. For the open-source release I am rebuilding the interface with Laravel, Filament, Inertia, and React so anyone can run it.
Key Features
- 01Structured income and expense recording
- 02Financial summaries and reporting
- 03Filament admin panel for non-technical members
- 04Laravel, Inertia, and React rebuild for the open-source release
- 05Hosted on a VPS
- 06Open-source codebase for other organizations
Challenges
The challenge was making a trustworthy ledger for people who are not technical, while keeping reporting accurate. Moving from a personal tool into an open-source project also means reshaping the code so others can run and extend it without my help.
Outcome
Kas TIY is live on a VPS, actively used by the organization, and being prepared as an open-source release. What started as a personal pain point as treasurer became a deployed application and a reusable tool for other organizations.
